Starbucks Anonymous

So my cravings have taken a different turn. My favorite drink at Starbucks is still the Coffee Frappuccino but I have to try something different every once in a while right? Well, so I tried the Java Chip Frappuccino . It was awesome. Not the most awesomest but a great drink nevertheless. It still didn't knock the Coffee Frapp off its pedestal. The java chip added almost but not quite unlike the bubbles or pearl found in bubble tea. It gave just the right kick. But the intense Mocha taste overpowered the whole drink causing it not to be the greatest. However, I think I found something there. Something that was meant to be but have not come to fruition . On my next visit to Starbucks, I asked the barista to make me a custom drink. One that has the base of the Coffee Frapp but with the extra zing of the Java Chip. So I finally had the chance to try the Coolata out.  It was actually an interesting mixture for a blended coffee drink.  The way that it was made is similar to that of a milk shake but the base was more of a creamy ice.  The dispenser was like a soft serve ice cream except it was mostly ice crystals like a slush in creamy liquid form.  The process was to grab a plastic cup and fill the bottom with some coffee and then dispense the icy soft serve into it.  Then they blended the mixture with a mixer that looks like a Dairy Queen Blizzard mixer.  Now on to the flavor.  It sucks.  It's combination of flavors are lacking in all aspect.  It reminds me of a lame duck.  It can't walk well, swim well, or fly well.  It does all that but sucks at everything.  The flavor of the coffee was very light.  The creaminess was cut by the ice particles.  It tasted like a half cup of frozen skim milk with a half cup of ice and blended together with just two tablespoon of regular coffee.  The fro

So when I heard that Dunkin' Donuts had a frozen coffee beverage called COFFEE COOLATTA, I had to try it out.  I want to try anything that would be a substitute for my current addiction.  As luck would have it, DD didn't have their machine turned on when I stopped by before heading into work.  So for now, I don't know what the COFFEE COOLATTA tastes like.  One of these days I will try it out and let you all know how it tastes.

There are several alternatives to help curb your cravings out there.  For example, QuikTrip (QT) gas station also have a Frozen Cappuccino machine.  It's only a couple of bucks so it is almost just half the price of a Starbucks Frappucino.  I really really tried to get hooked on this instead but it just was not quite there yet.  Let me see if I can describe how it tastes.  Imagine a very light coffee in the Slurpee machine with double the cream and some sugar.  It is blended to a very smooth consistency and goes down very well.  Maybe it is just too creamy and not as rich in coffee flavor as the Starbucks version but this might help others out there that may want to slowly stop their Starbucks addiction.  I view the Frozen Cappuccino from QT as a nicotine patch for cigarettes.  It didn't work for me but it might for you.  Good luck...

One of the greatest drinks around.  This will give a whole different feel than the baseline Coffee Frappucino.  It's over the top mixture of sweetness with the right detail of bitterness from the expresso.  This will kick you onto the wall and you wouldn't want to get down.  The half-ice makes sure the intense flavor is unforgiving and will smash your head in like a gold brick wrapped in caramel.  You haven't experienced the Venti White Mocha Frappacino Half-Ice Shot of Espresso Shot of Caramel until you had the Venti White Mocha Frappacino Half-Ice Shot of Espresso Shot of Caramel.  Now set the cup down and slowly walk away.
